Introduction
Marauder is a world much like Earth, but possesses magical qualities that Earth lacks. Originally composed of a super continent, the plates of Marauder have shifted, resulting in 6 individual continents and 4 islands.
250 million years in the past, the continents of Marauder were one giant land mass, called Capton Capitatus. This super continent surrounded by a vast ocean called Potterus. It is believed that Capton Capitatus was floating on the mantel of the planet, as are the continents today. Capton Capitatus was covered with many plants similar to those that are native to Earth, however was also home to some different, and perhaps more unusual, species of both plant and animal. Along the south east coast of the super continent, the Mandrake, also known as the Mandragora, grows wild. The Mandrake is plant which has a root that looks like a human (like a baby when the plant is young, but maturing as the plant grows). When mature, its cry can be fatal to any person who hears it. In addition to this, scientists have found evidence of other plants that have grown native to Marauder for millions of years. These include Dittany, Devil’s Snare and The Venomous Tentacula, those of which flourish in cooler climates of Voldoor and Slyven. As well as hosting unusual plant species, Marauder is also home to many eccentric animals. An Acromantula is a species of giant spider, native to the dense jungle rainforests of Huffin. Centaurs and giants are native to the forests of Slyven, as are most species of dragon, and Thestrals, a type of winged horse (those of which can only be seen by those who have encountered death). Although dragons are commonly found in forests, they can also be found in the volcanic regions of Marauder. The Chinese Fireball and Hebridean Black in particular are drawn to the volcanoes of Gryffin, which are a result of a hotspot. Magical distribution can easily be tracked within Marauder, as evidenced by the enchanted animals and plants that inhabit it. Although some Dark Magic can be traced across the continent, this only adds to the theory that the continents of Marauder were once joined. |
